The Council's Strategic Investment & Commercial Facilitation team has a position available for a Senior Strategic Advisor. This is a property and development-focussed role.

This team facilitates the planning and delivery of Council-led property projects that support good outcomes for our communities. This work includes leading strategic property projects, including the redevelopment of Council-owned land to deliver strategic outcomes; land purchases to support the growth and infrastructure projects in greenfields and brownfields areas, including parks and other community-focused developments, and roads, waters and other city infrastructure needs; the divestment of Council property; and providing property and development-related advice to Council.  

This is a challenging, diverse and rewarding role where you are the interface between various Council departments and responding to media and public inquiries. No two days are the same with the role providing a true mix of juggling daily demands and priorities to working on projects. To manage this well and effectively you will enjoy the variety and be someone who is naturally adaptable, responsive and agile.

This role involves engaging with land owners, tangata whenua, the development community, and various stakeholders and communities of interest, working closely with the wider council organisation and other technical experts to deliver development outcomes. There is also a lot of interaction with our elected members so you will need to be confident with public speaking, presenting at formal meetings, workshops, briefings and hui.

We are looking for someone with the following;

  • Ideally, you will be a professional with strong property, project management and community engagement experience.
  • A university degree in property, planning, law, or other relevant fields and preferably local government exposure.
  • Proven ability in property, planning, law or other relevant local or central government fields
  • Experience in regeneration projects and/or redevelopment of brownfields land is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of the growth and development issues Tauranga is facing, and the cultural, social, and economic context for our work
  • Strong presentation skills
  • Good business acumen
  • Knowledge of property and development-related legislation - particularly in the local government context (highly desirable)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including report writing (concise whilst comprehensive)
  • Positive and self-motivated

Salary Range
