Job Description

Reporting directly to the Manager of Property, the Property Safety Specialist is responsible for overseeing all safety related building compliance activities for the Property group of Tauranga City Council.

This newly created role works across both the Facilities team (which is responsible for making our city look great) and the Property team (which delivers operational management of the council owned property portfolio).

The role:

This position has come about as a result of Council's commitment to provide a dedicated focus to develop and implement a comprehensive compliance programme to look after contractor health and safety and ensure building compliance standards are being maintained and stakeholders receive timely and effective communication.

The property portfolio is unique and very diverse, making this role very rewarding and satisfying. We're looking for an experienced compliance guru; an individual who can demonstrate excellent problem-solving ability; someone who understands quality and who champions best practice at every level.

The responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining the asbestos register and overseeing methamphetamine testing for all TCC buildings
  • Ensuring that Contractors adhere to all health and safety standards
  • Carrying out safety inspections and conducting audits
  • Overseeing control of building access - both systems and people
  • Ensuring security is being maintained at all times across all facilities and buildings
  • Overseeing cleaning standards are met
  • Providing advice on compliance and ways in which inspections services can be improved
  • Stakeholder liaison
  • Being the primary point of contact for contractors, tenants, members of the public and team members - both internal and external

The ideal candidate will possess;

  • 2+ years managing one or more aspects of safety compliance relating to properties and/or facilities ie building compliance activities (fire, codes etc) health and safety contractor management, building security services
  • Good working knowledge of one or more areas of the legislative requirements relating to property or facilities management
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong relationship building skills
  • An ability to manage multiple work streams, prioritise tasks and initiatives from inception through to completion
  • A forward thinking and fresh approach
  • Current full driver's license
  • Certification in Methamphetamine/Asbestos management is highly desirable
